Cocos
(Keeling) Island - Indian Ocean
Although
we had planned a non stop passage across the Indian Ocean, we are both delighted
that a necessary change in plans enables us to experience this truly idyllic
atoll. Part way into the passage, our escape hatch in the middle of the salon
floor has sprung open, allowing tons of water to enter and flood the portside
bilges. When we can't manage to seal it again properly, we decide to pull into
the calm waters of Cocos's lagoon to effect repairs. A stay of a couple of days
quickly turns into a couple of weeks as we meet up with old friends who have
sailed in from various ports. We fish together and enjoy BBQs ashore in the
shelter on the beach, and add our calling card to the numerous other signs and
pieces of memorabilia left by visiting cruising boats.
