Opua
- Bay of Islands, New Zealand
After
our tropical island landfalls, the passage down into the
more southern latitudes that are home to New Zealand brought a change in climate,
and in scenery. At the end of a six day passage in sometimes quite
boisterous
conditions, the cloud shrouded coastline of a brilliantly green New Zealand was
a very beautiful sight. After a year of heat, our bodies were feeling the chill
in the air and we are unaccustomed to rugging up in woolen sweaters and socks. Adjusting to
the climate change didn't stop us quickly getting down to work on a long list of maintenance
tasks we want to attend to though. We haul Fallado out of the water in Ashby's boatyard
in Opua and work
right through to Christmas. Then we head off on a planned cruise to
New Zealand's far south.
