Valdivia,
Chile
After being moored for the better part of a year
in the upper reaches of the Rio Calle Calle, Fallado was ready to head back out
to sea. Our time in Valdivia had been well spent though. Fallado had been hauled

the depths of winter we had left her securely moored and taken a 4wd station
wagon north, driving the length of the Pan Americana Highway right to the
Peruvian border, then headed inland, climbing over the Andes and into Bolivia and
Peru's mountainous regions. Sailing a traditional reed boat on Lake Titicaca and
walking the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu were special highlights in an
impressionable year spent living amidst contemporary South American society
